Pitztal The
Friendly Valley
Austria
isn't renowned for its friendliness by us Brits.
We think they
tend to be a bit stand-offish. But here in Pitztal nothing is
further from the truth.
It also offers remarkably good
value - certainly compared to the Swiss and French Alps!
Not that the skiing is in any way
inferior. There are slopes for all ages and abilities - and
plenty of terraces to lie back in the sun and watch.
So why is this?
Well,
Pitztal is jealously protective of its environment. They have
deliberately not over exploited it, so there are no huge hotels.
Because Pitztal is a cul-de-sac
there is no through traffic making it a peaceful and safe
place.
All we have are spectacular
mountains, loads of fun activities, and friendly people.
That is why we moved here - and
why we would like to invite you to enjoy it too.
A hidden gem
Austrian Holiday offers the flexibility for you to chose the holiday that best suits your needs, ability and family/group requirements.
Pitztal boasts the highest Glacier in Austria and the highest lift, taking you to 3440 meters.
(about 10,000')
Because we are so high we
can offer skiing from mid September to the end of May in all four of our local ski areas.
Perhaps consider taking a ski holiday in the autumn and up until the New Year where the resort is quiet and if you ever consider a Christmas break this is just the place with good value and no crowds.
In St Leonhard there is a family run baker, shop, post office a doctor and a welcoming Gasthaus (hotel and pub). Next to the church there is a bank with a 24-hour cash machine and a tourist office. Although this office is not staffed it is always open and there is a wide range of free information on hand. The tourist offices in Wenns and Mandarfen (village just before the Glacier and situated opposite the
Rieffelseebahn) are staffed and are very helpful. There are larger general stores in Poismos (next village up the valley) and
Mandarfen. Larger
super stores can be found in Wenns and Imst, down the valley, where you will find a wide range of large stores and specialised shops.
What we can do for you
To save you time and help get your holiday off to a good and easy
start we can arrange Ski Instruction, Lift Passes and reserve Skis
and Shoes, and of course, show you where you need to be.
The picture to the
right shows the impressive waterfall situated
just behind Chalet
Alpenrosa - a 15 minute walk on your way up to the
Tiefental Alm, one of 3 Alms 90 minutes to 2 hours
walk from the apartments.
